Connection Blox™: Nine Domains of Integration was created by a psychotherapist with the intention of providing a simple and engaging tool for learning and experiencing how our brains and bodies connect and heal. 

The Idea

The field of interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) originated in the late 1990s with the work of psychiatrist, educator, and author Dr. Daniel Siegel, and has been co-developed with fellow pioneers Drs. Allan Schore, Louis Cozolino, Curt Thompson, Bonnie Badennoch, and others. The concepts and language used in IPNB facilitate collaboration within and between different fields of science, study, and practice by creating an interdisciplinary framework for understanding our subjective and interpersonal lives. IPNB has allowed experts, therapists, scientists, teachers, and individuals to effectively and practically deepen their understanding of how the mind, the brain, and relationships work together. 

According to IPNB, a healthy mind is one that modifies energy and information flow, linking all of its differentiated parts. When those parts--which IPNB divides into nine levels or domains--of our complex minds are integrated, the experience is like flowing down a river. Without this integration, we tend to bump into the shores of chaos or rigidity (or both) in our lives. Holding, learning, feeling, and reflecting with Connection Blox™ can be a first step in, or a sign post back to helping energy and information flow more easily and reciprocally between these differentiated and linked brain systems. 

These Connection Blox™ are a tool intended to deepen integration, which is the basis of all mental health and human flourishing. They are ideal for therapists, counseling students, supervisors/supervisees, or anyone looking to stay floating in the river of integration. Greater degrees of integration allow us to experience more openness, connection, and joy!

The Sides

The sides of each cube are designed to teach the user about integration in each domain.

Side 1: Domain number and name

• The nine domains of integration are conscious integration, vertical integration, horizontal integration, memory integration, narrative integration, state integration, interpersonal integration, temporal integration, and transpirational integration

Side 2: Brief description of the domain and how integration is accomplished
Side 3: Graphic to activate whole brain engagement
Side 4: Question or prompt designed to assist with the examination and experience of the domain

The Set

• 9- 2” blox, beautifully crafted from maple hardwood and custom laser engraved for a total of 36 distinct sides. Mineral oil has been loving applied by hand to protect its natural beauty. *Please note that maple has a fine, uniform texture with generally straight grain, but variations in grain and color do occur.
